The smell could take a few days. Make sure he washes all her clothes and his hair properly and then you won’t be able to smell it.

Nicotine has a short half-life, approx. 60 Min’s. so it’s virtually gone from the body in 6-8 hours [ which is why smokers can't go too long without smoking ].Cotinine, a different chemical has a half-life of 48 hours [ therefore urine tests can determine if someone has smoked 2 days later ] As regards smell it will take a week or two of rigorous oral hygiene and several cycles of clothes washing to totally eliminate that.

Nicotine stays in the blood for no more than 48 hours, after which it is no longer detectable in blood or urine tests.
Luckilly, his heart and lungs will have started to heal just 12 hours after his last cigarette. Make sure he doesn’t start again.
What you are smelling could just be you thinking that you should be smelling smoke so you believe you do smell it. If not it may just be on his clothes.
But the only thing in his system is a metabolite of nicotine called Cotinine which will have traces in his blood/urine for up to 7 days.

It has a half-life of about 60 minutes, meaning that six hours after a cigarette, only about 0.031 mg of the 1 mg of nicotine inhaled remains in the body. About 80 percent of nicotine is broken down to cotinine by enzymes in the liver. Nicotine is also metabolized in the lungs to cotinine and nicotine oxide. Cotinine and other metabolites are excreted in the urine. Cotinine has a 24-hour half-life, so it is possible to test whether or not someone has been smoking in the past day or two by screening his or her urine for cotinine. The remaining nicotine is filtered from the blood by the kidneys and excreted in the urine.
Different people metabolize nicotine at different rates. Some people even have a genetic defect in the enzymes in their liver that break down nicotine, whereby the mutant enzyme is much less effective at metabolizing nicotine than the normal variant. If a person has this gene, their blood and brain nicotine levels stay higher for longer after smoking a cigarette. Normally, people keep smoking cigarettes throughout the day to maintain a steady level of nicotine in their bodies. Smokers with this gene usually end up smoking many fewer cigarettes, because they don’t constantly need more nicotine.

Nicotine doesnt smell and should have left his body, are you sure he’s not having a crafty one when your not there. Or does he hang around with smokers as the smoke will get onto his clothes from them
