Your baby may cry for the first 24-36 hours and get little sleep- then it will be over. There is also a chance that you will not see any symptoms of withdrawl at all.

My friend was a “light” smoker throughout pregnancy, and her baby was born eight weeks early, weighing only three pounds. He has has loads of ear infections, now has tubes in his ears at 2.5yo and is speech delayed.

i don’t think so, but i think there is a chance of low birth weight and things like that. my friend smoke throughout her pregnancy, not a lot, but some, and her daughter is always getting ear infection, even at 7! and she was born w/ a low birth weight. so, smoking does effect the fetus

I smoked with my first child (and again now with my second) with the doctors support. We decided that quiting while pregnant would be to stressful for my and the baby! He was born at 41 weeks perfectly healthy and with no withdrawal symptoms! Also at a completely normal weight. He has also been very healthy so far (no ear infections, strep etc) Also my mother smoked with all three of her children and we weren’t sick at all as children! I think that people who have never smoked should not be so judgmental!

Well my mother smoked with all 5 of her children (including me) and as far as I know she never said that we had with drawl. Also I was 9 when my mom had her youngest, my little sisters who are twins and I saw them the day they were born and from my memory they looked pretty normal to me. All of us were healthy weights too… My oldest brother 7lbs 8 ounces, older brother over 8 lbs (he was late), me 7lbs 11 ounces and my twin little sisters born at 36 weeks, one was just over 6lbs and the other just under 6lbs. So I think you’ll be okay don’t stress to much!
ADDITION
I called my mom last night and she said we were all really healthy and she WASN’T a light smoker… she said she smoked just as much as she did when she wasn’t pregnant. This is some years ago so i’m sure she smokes more now than she did then, but it was probably around a pack a day I’d say. It’s funny because I was surprised that she said that and I was like really? She said what did you want me to lie and I was like uhh yeah!

You should have been seeking help when you found out you were pregnant and decided to continue smoking.
Guess you aren’t one of those mothers that enjoys allowing your fetus to grow properly with the right amount of oxygen.
And yes, to answer your question, your baby will come out slightly addicted to nicotene. It’s an addictive substance and since you are pregnant and smoking, some of the nicotene has surely reached your baby.

Everything you put into your body goes to your child. So if this puts it into perspective for you, imagine your innocent childs undeveloped lungs breathing in that cigarette smoke and they cannot tell you that its hurting them or bothering them. Please stop, if not for yourself for the sake of your child. I used to smoke, the moment I found out I was carrying another life inside me I never had the urge to pick up another cigarette. It’s not just about you anymore, thats part of parenthood. Do what you have to do, just stop please for that baby! They deserve the best chance at a life, and if you are willing to compromise that maybe you shouldn’t be having a baby to begin with.
