quit smoking because YOU want to quit

Everyone knows that is virtually suicidal to smoke cigarettes, the medical risks are huge and research continually uncovers even more dangers. Add to that the financial drain of regularly buying cigarettes and you need little more reason to quit smoking.
The problem is that just knowing all these things isn’t always enough to generate enough willpower to act on the knowledge and kick the habit for good, it’s very easy to say “I’ll quit next week”.
One factor is that despite all the education and government advice children and young people still take up the habit, become hooked and are lead down the same road to destruction as their Mothers, Fathers and elders.
Image via Wikipedia Whether you class smoking as a physical addiction or just a habit, it is an increasingly difficult behaviour to break. Nicotine acts on the brain, the brain then instructs the body that it needs more nicotine, and so you light another cigarette and ingest yet another lung full of toxic chemicals, tar and nicotine which is then rushed around the entire body in the bloodstream.
Any smoker will tell you that breaking this “chain of events” is not all easy, the person who is trying to stop smoking needs to put together a comprehensive plan of action. With a proper plan in place the act of breaking the nicotine habit can become more natural, with a greater chance of success.
So, where should you start? Well to put it simply:
How badly do you want to quit?
Do you really want to quit at all?
Are you just quitting to save a few $’s?
Are you quitting due to pressure from someone else?
These all sound like simple and reasonable questions but the bottom line is, you have to want to quit smoking because YOU want to quit, just YOU without any outside pressures, any outside pressures will just generate more stress and make you even more likely to reach for a cigarette!
