If You Smoke – So Does Your Family

Lung cancerImage via Wikipedia It is almost a certainty that the majority of people who smoke tobacco will at some point in their lives be affected by some kind of illness directly linked to smoking, with as many as 50% of these people actually being killed by their habit, many of these in their middle age. A large number of these people will contract lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, heart disease, bronchitis all if which often lead to a long, painful and drawn out demise with very often a poor prognosis during lengthy treatment plans and hospital admissions.

In the UK the public health warnings shown on all tobacco products now also include a warning about the risk to men of impotency should they choose to smoke tobacco, it has been estimated that as many as 120,000 males under 40 have become impotent as a direct consequence of smoking, with many unaware of the risks.

Of course it’s not just himself that the smoker puts at risk with almost 20,000 infants under 5 years of age being admitted to hospital suffering from the effects of second hand smoke every 12 months.
Paediatricians report that babies who are subjected to an environment polluted with cigarette smoke have a far larger risk of cerebral palsy, ear infections, cleft palate, tonsillitis, chest and throat infections as well as asthma and other allergies as well as later on in life developing behavioural problems. It is also thought likely that a proportion of Cot deaths may be linked to the parent’s use of tobacco products within the home.

Almost half of all domestic house fires are attributable to cigarette smoking, with the casualties often being children who often become trapped upstairs and end up overcome by fumes beyond rescue
It is a well known fact that young people are educated by imitating the people around them and therefore it is undeniably more likely that the offspring of a smoking parent will take up smoking themselves in an effort to emulate. In the UK alone just under 500 young people take up smoking daily and over 75% of smokers admit that the started the habit when they were under 20 years of age.

On average people who have managed to quit smoking have taken around 6 attempts before finally succeeding, although 1 in 5 people report that they managed to give up smoking at their first attempt. Figures published by the quit smoking charity ASH claim that almost a quarter of all adults in the United Kingdom are ex-smokers.

The summary is that if all these people can put a stop to smoking then there is no reason at all why you can not join their ranks and quit for good.

Ask people around you who are ex-smokers how they did it, it really does not have to be an impossible task as long as you choose the right method, system or treatment that is right for you. A lot of people have found that hypnotherapy can be very successful whilst other ex-smokers will swear by nicotine gum or occasionally willpower alone will suffice.

If you try to stop smoking but fail the message is “Don’t Give Up” just try another way and keep trying until you finally quit for good.
