Whats a safe way to quit smoking while preg?
socal_blondie10 asked:
I just found out I’m pregnant and I am a smoker, I definately don’t want to smoke while pregnant. Even though I’ve had friends that have smoked durning their pregnancy and their babies turned out healthy as can be. But beside that what can i take while I am pregnant to help me quit smoking that won’t hurt my baby?

Just go cold turkey.
As soon as you think of smoking another cig, think of the baby ******* it in his/her lungs.
I quit for both of mine using this technique.

The patch is okay, and the gum. At least its not smoke getting in there. But Im a smoker and havent quit since Ive been prego. =( Yes, I know, thumbs down…..just being honest though.

talk to your doctor about wellbutrin ( or bupropion… that’s the generic name for it)… that’s what I’m on. It makes the cravings simply disappear, I kid you not. I quit cold turkey six days after starting wellbutrin, and didn’t even realize I had done it!! Good luck to you, and CONGRATS on your pregnancy!
thumbs down.. that’s okay.. but my motivation for SEEING my doctor about the smoking in the first place is that I’m pregnant with twins and wanted to quit ASAP…for their health and well being. So, I’m fine with my decision.

My daughter gave it up for the sake of her unborn child. She just focussed on her much wanted baby and did it cold turkey. Good luck and keep trying..

So what if their children were “healthy as can be”? I bet you that they will be addicted to smoking like em too, you’ll see.

It’s good you don’t want to smoke while pregnant.
Whatever toxins you put into your system, you also put into your babies system. How about give up your addictions for the sake of the baby, simple as that.

I found out i was pregnant two weeks ago. I am also a smoker but when I found out I was pregnant, I quit right away. I read more about it online and said it’s also safe to cut back over a week and then quit. Congrats and good luck. I knbow how hard it is to quit but it’s worth it.

Think about your precious growing child and how you want it to have a great start in life from the 1st min you knew he/she was “alive” stop right away! I did it was wierd i found it hard before but as soon as i found out i was pregnant i just stopped right away as the thought of “making” my baby “smoke” as well was too selfish! Suppose it was my maternal instinct kicking in right away! Good luck though!

Don’t take anything! Also…don’t keep in your mind that those women who smoked babies are perfectly healthy—because that is almost an excuse for you to continue smoking. I was a pack a day smoker when I found out I was pregnant—-and I had 1 cigarette when I found out…because the pregnancy was totally unexpected and I freaked out. I had 2 more after that and I never looked back. You are growing a child inside of you…and I know you want the best for it or you would continue smoking. You have the strength to do it on your own. Go cold turkey…its not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

There is nothing you can take. I was a smoker to and it took me untill I was 21 weeks to quite completely, Yes my son is healthy! You need to just slowly stop so if you smoke 10 a day then tomorrow try to do 9 and so on and so forth. Even if you dont quite completely cutting down is better than not. Yes it is hard but you can do it. Congrats and good luck with the little one.

Need to talk to your family doctor first…some doctors wont allow you to quit, because of stress to the fetus

don’t light up
November 12th, 2008 at 12:15 am
I knew someone who carried a pack like they smoked and did all the actions as well, but just didn’t ever light it.

i stopped as soon as i found out i was pregnant for my baby. the thought of smoking with my little baby in there i could never smoke ever. why would you want to make your baby smoke? i no its hard but what would you rather a cigarette or a healthy baby? i no what i would rather my baby!
9 months out of your life without a cigarette come on you can do it! good luck.

thinking about the health of your child!!! Go cold turkey!!!

You can’t take anything to help you quit smoking. None of those products have been actually tested to determine safety. My recommendation is to cut back as much as you can. Stay with that for a couple of weeks and see how you are doing. Then decide if you can go cold turkey or not. Some women who quit cold turkey smoke lots more if they start again. You have to just fight this. It’s hard to quit, but realize that the average smoker quits 7-9 times before complete success. Took me 7 really effort-filled tries (I eliminated a lot of places where I allowed myself to smoke, so that is what ultimately helped).

Cold turkey is always the best way to go about it but if it is getting too hard for you or you don’t think that you can do it just talk to your doctor. I’m not sure if the gum or patch is even safe so please go ask your doctor, they might have a lower dose so you can start off with.
And just because all of your friend’s babies came out O.K. do you really want to chance it? It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Good luck on quitting! And just remember that even though it won’t be easy please don’t give up.

This is what my wife did, she rolled some paper in the shape of a cig, and pretended to smoke it. As soon as you leave the hospital after having the baby, buy a large pack (50) as a reward.
