Smoking: The Unknown Risks.
Maybe you are undecided as to whether you want to give up smoking?
Maybe you think that you already know the health risks involved in smoking and you don’t worry?
Of course we all know that smoking affects your lungs and increases your chance of developing cancer – But are you aware of the other serious affects it can have on your health?
Of course giving up smoking must always be your choice, you can not give up for some one else but maybe knowing the full picture can help?
Image by shnnn via Flickr Are you aware that smoking can have very serious effects on your illness? If you smoke you have an increased risk of developing cataracts. Heavy smokers are twice as likely to develop macular degeneration – Resulting in you gradually loosing your eye sight. On a slightly less serious note it can also cause your eyes to be itchy, sore and have a blood shot appearance.
It also affects your mouth – As well as staining your teeth and gums it means that you are likely to develop periodontal disease – This disease causing bad teeth and swollen gums. Due to smoking also causing acids in your mouth you are also at risk of developing ulcers.
Also, Compared to non-smokers couples who smoke are more likely to have fertility problems.
Of course there are also the effects that it has your appearance – You are likely to have more wrinkles & paler skin, caused by smoking lowering the vitamin A in your body.
So if you are thinking of giving up smoking, think of all the health benefits that you will experience – Some of them are better known than others. However there can be no doubt that being a non smoker has many benefits.
