Smoking Risks

In August 2006 in a case related to smoking risks, a federal judge said that the tobacco manufacturers were embroiled in racketeering codes citing that the industry had engaged in a plot lasting decades-long to veil the perils of smoking from their customers. Tobacco manufacturers had to publish newspaper advertisements revealing the effects smoking has on health and the associated rmoking risks.

The judge said that the plot could be traced back to 1953 when an assembly of tobacco companies united at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and devised a public relations scheme to ward off health concerns affiliated with smoking The judge also stated that despite the suggestions in the 1964 Surgeon General’s report associating smoking to lung cancer tobacco companies still denied and consciously distorted numerous severe dangers of smoking their products.

It was also discovered that the tobacco manufacturers marketed their products to underage people in spite of the manufacturers claims they do not want children to smoke. The companies were guilty of trailing youth habits and preferences, hence making sure that advertising and campaigns was seen by youth. The grim dangers of smoking and all the smoking risks were concealed from them while their young bodies were still developing.

The industry was also faulted for opposing publicly that breathing in someone elses smoke is harmful and denying smoking risks.

The Clinton administration in 1999 accused the tobacco industry of racketeering as some collaborated plot to dupe the general populus the harmful effects of smoking and numerous smoking risks and to keep secret the knowledge they had which suggested otherwise

: Under the ruling, the tobacco companies were also ordered to stop using such descriptions as low tar, light, ultra light, mild or natural or any other summaries that might seem as if cigarettes posed less of a health hazard or an attempt to lessen the perils of smoking them.

While this ruling was a success for a number of anti-tobacco and anti-smoking drives a lot discussed the period of time it took for the government to respond to tobacco’s use and the length of time the case took as well. Other people thought perhaps the court wasn’t punitive enough with the companies

We are pleased with the court’s finding of liability on the part of the defendants, but disappointed that the court did not impose all of the remedies sought by the government the Justice Department stated in a written communication

Nevertheless, we are hopeful that the remedies that were imposed by the court can have a significant, positive impact on the health of the American public.

Finally it looked to a vast number to be a fruitless victory, but some good was still done in stressing the important

smoking risks

that even the tobacco manufacturers were not able to or authorised to deny.

Always consider all the smoking risks before you decide to start smoking!
