Everyone knows that quitting smoking is never easy. You can ask any ex-smoker and get the same response. The long term problems can be that even though you have managed to quit smoking, the nicotine cravings are still there! I’ve even heard of people who have stopped for more than 20 years and they still experience the occasional desire for “just one cigarette”.
As you’re still reading this article, it’s pretty certain that you are already well aware of of these facts, let’s face it, if you didn’t use cigarettes you wouldn’t be here. Every smoker has at one time or other thought to themselves “It’s just too hard to quit - there must be something that can help me stop smoking!” Well the good news is that simple drinking water can assist you in getting over some of those difficult nicotine cravings, particularly during the early stages of you stop smoking regime.
The simple fact is that the longer a person has smoked for then the more your brain has become dependant on the intake of nicotine into the bloodstream. A Major stumbling block in quitting smoking is this overpowering craving for nicotine. On the other hand as soon as you stop smoking your
body starts to get rid of the toxins it has absorbed from tobacco products, this is part of the cause of the headaches many people suffer from in the early stages of quitting.
Image via Wikipedia Drinking plenty of water greatly aids the human body to flush these toxins and poison out, giving your internal organs and tissues a chance to recover and even regenerate. During the first stages, when you first decide to stop smoking it’s wise to increase your daily water intake, this also will help reduce the hunger pangs and combat the weight gain that so many smokers endure when the do stop smoking.
If you are really, really desperate for a cigarette, try not to weaken to your brains demands, instead help yourself to a refreshing glass of water and you may be surprised how it takes those cravings away, or at least reduces them to an endurable level!
Don’t like plain water? Don’t panic! Just use a diluted (low sugar!) cordial, or even simply add a twist of lemon or lime to your glass.
At the end of the day, simply drinking water is (probably) not going to be the magic wand that makes you quit smoking but it is another part of your weaponry you can put together to finally realise your dream of saying “I am an ex-smoker, and I feel better for it”
