SEFTON Primary Care Trust is helping women stop smoking before, during and after pregnancy.

It is the first PCT on Merseyside to produce a magazine to help women quit smoking, called ‘Talk’.

Sefton PCT has produced the magazine to promote the specialist stop smoking service SUPPORT to help women and their families stop smoking and it offers practical information and tips on how to quit smoking.

Sefton PCT health promotion specialist Jo McCullagh said: “We have worked with other PCTs to establish the best way of helping women stop smoking when they are pregnant.

“We know we need to listen to what women want and need to help them quit.

‘Talk ‘is a dedicated magazine for pregnant women and their families giving advice on how they can quit real life stories of women giving up and information about the local NHS support service.”

Colette Kearney, Sefton’s pregnancy service specialist, said: “Talk magazine is aimed at helping women stop smoking during pregnancy because if they do quit women benefit from less morning sickness, fewer complications and a more content baby after birth.

“The magazine is just one of the services on offer from Sefton PCT to encourage and support women to quit smoking. These services are very successful.

“Last year alone we had 203 pregnant women making a positive step to giving up smoking by setting their quit date.”
