Anyone Have To Quit Smoking Because You Were Pregnant...

I am a smoker of 2 pks a day, although I have tried to quit recently, several times and have gotten all the way down to 6 cigarettes a day at one point(didn’t take long either)…so I was wondering, does being pregnant or ttc make it a lot easier due to the fact that you’ve got extra motivation? I think it will for me, but just wondering about other’s experiences.

I quit the DAY I learned I was pregnant.. but let me tell you, I SO regret not quitting sooner.
Yanno that “cranky”, “I’m going to smack the hell out of the next person I see if I don’t get a ciggarrette” feeling? Multiply that x5.. pregnancy hormones are NO joke, especially not in the first trimester! I would strongly suggest quitting before you plan on conceiving. I sent my husband out of town for a long weekend because I knew the first 3 days of myself being smoke free could have potentially led to my husband divorcing me, lol. I was a real witch, to say the least.
Another reason i’d quit sooner, I gained 15 pounds in less than 6 weeks when I quit. Now, it’s easy to say you’re packing on the pounds because you’re eating for two, but the baby is around the size of a cheerio in the first trimester.. and if you’re anything like me, the weight will go RIGHT to your thighs. I think I would have been a lot more comfortable had I quit, got fat, then lost the weight before becoming pregnant. 15 pounds is a lot on an already growing frame. I always visioned myself because the “cute, basketball belly” pregnant woman, but now I just feel frumpy and “blah.”
Quitting at any time is FANTASTIC, but do it before you take the “pee test”, you’ll enjoy your pregnancy a lot more!
Chantix is a great medication, I know many people who’ve had success with it. I wish I would’ve had the motivation to try it, but, like you, I always said “eehh, whatever! I’ll quit when I have a baby!” :)
    Best of luck to you!!

Yes, being pregnant definitley helped me quit smoking. But its not like that for everyone. Some women quit smoking when TTC or when they find out they are pregnant, while some women continue smoking through their entire pregnancy.
I used to smoke about 1/2 pack a day for 6 years and I couldn’t believe how easy it was for me to smoke. I am sure the morning sickness helped as well as I couldn’t even stand the smell.
I suggest you quit before you TTC because not everyone finds the motivation to quit just because they find out they are pregnant.

I always said “the day I find out I’m pregnant I will not smoke another cigarette because that is horrible and sad for the baby who can’t speak for itself ” at that point I was a pack and a half a day smoker and had never attempted to quit ever in 6 years. Well I am 13 weeks pregnant right now, and I have not completely quit smoking yet. I realized it is alot harder than I thought it would be. The problem is, I don’t WANT to quit smoking, I just know I NEED to and I feel bad every time I light one up. I have drastically cut back, but giving up those last few a day has been a huge challenge for me. I pray nothing is wrong with my baby and I am thankful for the cost of cigs going up so I can finally kick the habit easier. So I know first hand that it is not as easy as you might think to completely stop, but anything is possible if you really want to quit. If you have a want for it, it will be easily attained. Good luck sweetie!!! :)

being pregnant made it easier- not a conscious decision- they just started tasting really bad and food started tasting reeeaaalllyyyyy good. this isn’t going to be popular, but there are lots of babies born just fine to smoking moms.
the reason to quit is to give your baby every advantage. it also gives you peace of mind, god forbid the baby has any health problems. you won’t have to walk aroung the rest of you life wondering if its because you smoked.

Yes, I quit cold turkey the day I took a HPT. I’ve tried before and I couldn’t, but I think knowing that I could harm my baby before it’s even born helped a lot. I just imagined my baby being deformed or dying before birth everytime I got a craving. Sounds morbid, I know, but it worked.

i smoked about ten a day until about 5 months then managed to give up really easily one day after struggling for the first 5 months

I tried quitting for a long time. When I got pregnant I quit no problem. It wasn’t just my body anymore. I thought of the baby’s health instead of mine.
