How Can I Quit Smoking Ciggarettes?

I’m 24 now, started smoking 10 years ago. Recently found out that I have early stage of Emphysema. I really want to quit, but others in my life are always smoking around me and it just seems as though I can’t be away from it.

Easy, just say I’m going to quit smoking and just stop cold turkey.

I quit in December 2007 when I had no real intention to.
I had been smoking 20+ a day for a lot longer than 10 years. What made me do it was a friend managed to stop and he said it wasn’t that difficult after the 3rd day.
It made a change cause everyone else had always told me how difficult it was gonna be, it was nice to have someone with a positive outlook. Sure enough after the third day it did start getting a bit easier, though I’d still get cravings for a while after that.
Nicotine patches helped a bit… I think…but I stopped using them after about 3 weeks.
Wish someone had told me it wasn’t so hard years ago. A lot of my friends are still smokers and I’m used to them smoking around me. …it won’t be really easy to give up but it’s not the most difficult thing to do either.
As each day passes after you’ve stoppped, the incentive not to smoke gets bigger and bigger. Now, even if I had a few drinks, I would not go near a cigarette.
Smoking was the most stupid thing I ever did but I still loved it at the time.

Mmm hmm, I started my quit while my husband was still smoking. He smoked in the enclosed back porch, his cigarettes were always right there, where I could have helped myself to them.
I didn’t try to quit “forever”. I quit for “today”. Just get thru today without smoking.. and repeated that every day till I didn’t have to worry about it any more.
Because I knew thru former quit attempts that I could not just do it cold turkey, I used the nicotine gum. Very helpful! Now, there’s even a new drug you can get from your doctor, called Chantix, which my son in law used and had great success with.
I joined an online quit smoking support site, called http://www.quitnet.com Fantastic site, very, very helpful!
I quit 6 & 1/2 years ago, and I have been really happy with this quit. Please don’t let excuses keep you away from improving your health with a good quit. Go to that support site, join (free) and start reading!

I quit smoking while running an arcade in which everyone smoked. It is all in your frame of mind. If you are ready only you can make yourself quit..
