He has to be motivated or all the tricks and medicines will not do it.
But here’s a couple anyway. Break your cigarettes in half before lighting them. Keep your cigarettes in an inconvenient place so you have to think about it before lighting another one. If you’re going to be out of the house for just a couple of hours, don’t bring your cigarettes with you. You’ll see that you can function without them. Increase that time gradually. Then start acting like a nonsmoker. Complain if somebody lights up near you. It’s called “fake till you make it”. Eventually it will sink in that you can be a nonsmoker for real.

Remind him of the dangers…it is the number one modifiable risk factors for heart disease, COPD, cancer, etc.
The best way to quit, though, is through a combination of nicotine replacement therapy (i.e. patchm gum), medication (i.e. chantix or zyban) and behavioral therapy. It is nearly impossible to stop ‘cold-turkey’- relapse rate is like 95%.
Good luck

There isnt really a way to “make” people quit which is sad.
But its great that you really care as much as you do.
My Father himself gave up smoking 10 months ago and feels far, far better for giving it up.
I would just remind him of what he is doing to himself, but dont be harsh to him as giving up isnt always easy, and perhaps remind him of the implications of smoking. and the unpleasantness that goes with it.
Best of luck

-Be understanding.
-Tell him how much its hurting you to watch him slowly kill himself. Tell him that you can’t stand to watch him waste his life away.
-Visit local hospitals or quit centers and get their advice.
-Tell him how much money he’d be saving by not smoking.
-Explain to him that you two can share more fun times together if he’s healthy and lives long.
I’m sorry, I don’t know what else to say. Good luck.

It only takes a few years off your life and it’s fun. It doesn’t stink at all if your the one doing it. Start smoking your own self and the smell will be replaced by the wonderful aroma of the mountains.
