How Long Do The Symptoms Of Nicotine Withdrawal Last?









I quit smoking almost 6 weeks ago. I chewed the gum for 1 week, but haven’t had any nicotine in my system for 5 weeks. I feel awful with all the signs of withdrawal – lethargic, tired, short of breath, light headed, difficulty concentrating. Does anyone know how long this should last?
I smoked for 21 years about 10-15 cigarettes per day. Since I quit I feel worse than I ever did when I was smoking. And it’s not just psycholigical, these are physical symptoms. I almost want to start smoking again ;-)

    It took me about 6 months before the cravings left me. I went cold turkey. I don’t think they even had nicotine gum back then !
    I had been smoking about 10-15 cigarettes per day for ten years.

    It’ll take a bit longer, but try and stick with it. If you think that you can’t cope then go back onto the gum for a little while longer……a week isn’t really long enough.
    Your brain and body will adjust, but it just takes time. It does get better and your body will be much healthier for not smoking.
    Drink pleny of water and fruit juices. Try not to take too much caffeine or sugar as this will make you more jittery and increase the cravings.
    You can help your brain function by taking Ginkyo Biloba each morning – this will help with the concentration.
    Take Rhodiola Rosea (Siberian Golden Root) for tiredness and lethargy.
    A brisk walk each day will help to increase your lung function and clear out all the tar that has accumulated inside your lungs. Or perhaps swimming or a bicycle ride. Just half an hour three times a week will help you to recover and regain your energy and lung function.
    Please don’t start smoking again. You’re doing really well and the symptoms do go away. You don’t want to go back to that harmful addiction.

    Dont do that! See your doctor. Maybe get a small nicotine patch to wear to help for a little while. Dont start smoking again though. NO NO NO!

    Give it a couple months.Dont give up! Hang in there!
    I had the same experience but stuck to it.You should be proud of yourself.
