I Am Trying To Quit Smoking Using The Patch And I Feel...
I started on step 2 because i don’t smoke that much although I have been smoking for about 10 years. I feel awful. I couldn’t sleep and had tons of bad dreams. I am hot and shaky and nauseous. I have used the patch before but didn’t feel like this. Is this normal?

hi need411fast
yep that’s the patch.. im not sure what the manufacturer says, but friends i know, who have quit using the patch, tell me never to sleep with the patch.. put it on first thing in the morning.. they cite all those symptoms..
you may have guessed from my answer, that i know a bunch of folks who have quit.. that is true i belong to a support group, found it much easier than trying to do it alone, and i dare say more successful.. i attend meetings both locally and on line.
congratulations on your decison to quit!! good luck on your quit there is really no wrong way to quit!!.

You are getting too much nicotine, hence the feeling hot and shakiness and nausea. Remove the patch now. Not only will a nicotine overdose make you sick, it will make your addiction *worse* rather than better.
Patches are always problematic since it’s hard to control the dose. When the symptoms have gone away and you’re ready to try again, I suggest you get the Commit nicotine lozenges. You can just take them out of your mouth if you feel you’re getting too much nicotine. Use the 2 mg ones, and cut them in half with a pill cutter if they’re too much for you.

When you quit smoking, your body immediately starts to detox and get rid of all the junk the cigarettes put in your system. So yep, feeling like crap is normal. Bad dreams are a normal part of using the patch; feeling shaky, hot, and nauseous are not. It almost sounds like you’re coming down with the flu.

I would recommend EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). It’s an emotional, needle-free version of acupuncture and it works wonders!
