I Just Quit Smoking,am I Supposed To Have More Of A...
My new year’s resolution was to quit smoking. I am doing good so far. But I seem to have more of a shortness of breath than I did when I was actually smoking. Is this common, or should I see the doctor about it.

34 Days Nicotine Free. Quit date 12-4-05.
Be sure to drink: WATER WATER WATER WATER
When you quit, you’ll get these side effects:
1) Shortness of breath. . .1-2 months.
2) Increase sense of smell. Take perfume with you everywhere, and dab it under your nose when you can’t take the smell (ie public restroom). (3-6 months)
3) Drool. (2-6 weeks)
4) Acne. (2-8 weeks)
5) Weight gain (beg- 1/2 year). Water helps.
6) Stuffy clogged up nose. (1-3 months)
Good luck and wish me luck.

You also may just be more aware of your lungs now. Learn to take deep lung-filling breaths. It will take a while to get used to all that fresh air, but as your lungs clear, you should feel better each day. Whatever you do avoid smoking to make your lungs feel normal again.
And by the way, smart move!

NO – you should not have shortness of breath because you quit smoking. you may cough more and produce more sputum as you lungs attempt to clean themselves out, but shortness of breath is not part of this process. if you are having difficulty breathing you should see your doctor.
