If Its Ok To Harass People To Quit Smoking, Why Is It...

Smoking is bad for your health. We all know this. But so is being overweight. Yet it is socially acceptable for smokers to be nagged at, harassed and otherwise given a hard time to try and get them to quit, but its NOT ok to harass an overweight person who is chowing down on a large Big Mac meal with a thickshake and a sundae!! Why can’t we tell them to excercise, eat healthy, and actually take care of themselves?

You don’t need to harass them but instead just kinda look at them and laugh a little bit but only if they’re really fat, that should do the trick

  2. livelybl Says:

You may not realise this but a lot of “fat” people – depends on your definition of course – ARE exercising in the hope of getting back to fit.
And someone telling you to exercise, usually someone whose metabolism keeps her skinny until the mid 40s, is offensive!
You can’t go from 100kg to 65 kg in a few weeks, in health.
I agree that someone vacuuming up Maccas is probably not in this category, but anyone prepared to eat Maccas in public weighing 100plus kg doesn’t give a Four X anyway!
    BTW fat is not infectious!

  3. Moni Says:

There is no need to do either. Worry about yourself. Don’t worry about anyone else, especially if you do not know them.
Also, you cannot get secondhand calories from sitting near someone who chows down on a big mac and drinks a triple thick milkshake. However, if you sit next to someone who is smoking, you can feel the effects of second hand smoke. That is why they have smoking sections and non-smoking sections and why many places are going smoke-free. People can do whatever they want with their own bodies and I will do what I want with mine. No need for harassment.

  4. Anya Says:

Because even though it’s unhealthy, people choose to eat what they like, and what they want. No one should tell anyone what to eat or that they need to exercise and lose weight. And, there are a gazillion restaurants who only want to make $$ and so they give the people what they want….the big mac, the shake, the fries and the sundae. If people wanted to really lose the weight, they would avoid those foods…..but many don’t and accept the weight they are at.

  5. saraimay Says:

It never okay to harass any one.
I can smell the smoke it stinks, it makes it difficult to breath. Smokers know what their doing is bad for them but their addicted.
I can’t smell a fat person they are not hurting me. Food is also an addiction. They are not eating just to feed them selves but to fulfill some other need emotionally.
People make their own choices. Both groups know that they are harming them selves. And unless you want someone telling you how to to thing then you shouldn’t be telling people what to do.

  6. Vera Gabriele Says:

I don’t mind if people smoke or if they are overweight that is a matter of choice.. but overweight people only risk their own health… whereas second hand smoke does affect other people so if I am a non-smoker I can ask a person who is smoking to not smoke around me if it is not permitted to smoke there or if they are guests in my house I can tell them to please go outside to smoke… because it endangers other peoples health.. therefore smoking is banned in most offices .. the smokers have to go outside and the same in restaurants .. either they have to sit in an area provided for smokers and some restaurants have banned smoking then the smokers have to smoke after or before they go there but second hand smoke kills.. obesity may kill the obese person but not others..

  7. keepin it real Says:

the reason people nag smokers is it is not only harming them
    but everyone around them.(secondhand smoke)
if you sit by someone who is fat and eating fattening things
you will not start to gain weight.
there is so much proof of secondhand smoke killing or
harming others it is just plain rude & ignorent to do around
    other people.
    if you must smoke ,
smoke alone—no one around to nag you.

  8. charisma Says:

I agree, it is extremely rude to tell a smoker that it is “bad for them” etc etc. They know it and choose not to quit. (its quite difficult to overcome the addiction, i quit 3 years ago and it was hell) Nobody has the right to say anything to you about it. They can walk somewhere else.

  9. rmbrruff Says:

Because your cigarette smoke will put me in the hospital.
I have a SEVERE allergy to cigarette smoke and if I get hit directly in the face with the smoke, I will go into an immediate asthma/anaphylactic shock episode. My throat immediately closes up and I cannot breathe.
If you have never been unable to breathe, you have NO IDEA what it is like to be near to dying.
THAT’S WHY I TELL PEOPLE NOT TO SMOKE AROUND ME. And walking past people to get in the door even though the law says 15 feet from the door, it’s not enough for me.

  10. the L eagle (DaRk WiNgS) Says:

im with u on this , ppl shouldnt harass smokers , it will only make us angry and smoke even more . and second hand smoke DOESNT kill . where the hell do u ppl get ur information from ?? . not everything u hear is right . i heard that multi vitamins cause cancer, but does anyone go by it? NO . stop whining .

  11. williamo Says:

I never tell a smoker they should quit. I just tell them to smoke elsewhere, because it stinks. If you suck down too much smoke or too many twinkies it’s not my problem, unless you’re stinking up my space or sitting on my leg.

  12. devinthe Says:

Why don;t you get that nose fixed, your a blemish on society
why are your boobs so small
look at that little muffin top
why so much makeup, got ugly skin
    your teeth could be cleaner
because they know it, but don’t need you reminding them
    =-)

  13. Angel Says:

Because it is none of your business, not being mean or anything, just telling the truth. What a person does with his/her body is their own business.

  14. Mr. Opinionated Says:

for the same reason that you cant let your kids play with loaded hand guns….because it’s morally wrong…that’s all…just morally wrong..

  15. msromand Says:

There is no need to be rude.

  16. Darla Says:

    Hi,
i don’t think harassing anyone is ok.
