I quit 23 years ago after smoking for about 12 years. I started because my fiance smoked and I was in the service and everyone else smoked.
I was smoking about to packs a day and coughing and hacking like no tomarrow. I went to the doctor for something else and he gave me a choice, stop smoking or stop breathing. I quit the next day. I used nicorette and it helped tremendously. It was a bit difficult being around my wife because she kept smoking. She still does(she is now my x) and she sounds like she has swallowed a frog when she talks. I’ll give her another 5 years or so (she’ll be 55) before she is taking up a grave sight.
As far as benefits, I feel great. I can run, ski, swim, just about anything with out running out of breath to a certain extent, of coarse. Then again, look at all the money I am saving. I can now afford to fly at least once or twice a week for what it would have cost me to smoke.
It is a nasty and expensive habit.

I’m a non-smoker. I choose not to smoke because it’s bad for your health, it stinks, it gives you bad skin, it gives you bad teeth, etc.
I have never been tempted to try and I’m sure I’ll live longer as a result of my decision to not smoke.

    Non-smoker
It is VERY bad for your health. I see the effects of smoking on my patients at work and it makes me glad I made the decision to never smoke. My father smoked when I was young. I stayed sick until he quit. Also, smokers STINK BAD after they smoke.
I was about 16 when I made the decision. I was never tempted to try.
Benefit – My son doesn’t get sick all the time like I did when I was his age. Also, I don’t stink like smoke.
Good luck and best wishes. Hope you get an A+.

Yes I did try to smoke because I thought it was cool. I was around 15, but the coughing, gaging, runny nose, and tearing of the eyes was not for me. Plus the stale odor left is awful. Most benefitual is the monies I would have tossed out the window and hopefully no lung cancer. My husband is also a non-smoker. We have been married 31yrs. 2 for 1

why did you choose no to smoke?
I saw my parents smoking as a dirty habit and they embarrassed me so greatly that I never wanted to be like them in that aspect.
how old where you when you made the decision?
    I was probably 10 -11 years old.
How do you feel you have benefited from you decision?
Never thought of that before and the first thing in my mind in my mind: I look GOOD and a lot better and younger than they do!

    2. I made that decision at seven when I was first told about how gross it is.
    3. I was never tempted to try. It’s just so disgusting.
