It just so happens that I’m trying to quit smoking and I’ve noticed that I’ve gained about 12 pounds.

your subconsious is used to you having something in your mouth and occupying your hand. this is commonly known as an oral fixation. it is completely normal for a person to replace one habit with another. in this case your new habit is eating.

Yes it is because you are substituting food for nicotine. I have never seen aperson that didn’t gain weight while quiting smoking . try chewing sugar fee gum instad of food maybe that will help. good luck.

Yes. This is because when you quit smoking you are actually breaking 2 addictions. First is the nicotine addiction, the second is the smoking addiction. The nicotine addiction is physiological and can leave you cranky and irritable. The smoking addiction (aka:nicotine habituation)is the physical act of having something in your hand that you put in your mouth. When you quit smoking, some researchers believe, it is the nicotine habituation that is the harder of the two to overcome. So, many people gain weight because they substitue the habit of placing a cigarette in their mouth with placing food in their mouth. Once the addiction settles you can work on breaking this habit.

I quit Nov 1, and have put on about 25-30 lbs. I’m working now to take it off. You might try chewing on coffee stirrers.. or straws.. it might help
