My Wife Stays On Me About Staying Quit Smoking,









I quit smoking about 4 months ago, but i am always craving a cigarette, and my wife tells me that if i just stop thinking about it, it will be okay, we both quit at the same time but i was smoking 2 packs a day compared to her 1 pack every 3 days, any advice?

    Be patient and keep up the good work. But yes, there is a certain psychology about not thinking about it. You probably wouldnt want it as much if you did stop. There is a reason why they run so many fast food and restaurant commercials during lunch and dinner times on tv. Cause thinking about it makes you want to go eat it.

    Ignore your wife’s nagging, but stay on the path to a smoke-free life. You shouldn’t be doing this for her, you should be doing this for you. The dangers of smoking are well known, so no need to repeat them here. But every time you think of lighting up a cigarette, even one, you should remind yourself of two things. One, where the smoker’s path leads. And two, of how far you’ve come already. One cigarette undoes the months of good you’ve done, and puts you back on that path towards major health issues. Carry a picture of a smoker’s lungs in your pocket, or better yet, a picture of your kid, whose children you hope to live to see. Keep your eye on the ball, and your wife will be proud, and a lot less naggy.

    Yeah I have the same problem with my husband tell me to just quit, cold turkey….I don’t smoke 2 packs a day i smoke maybe a pack a day and I don’t even smoke the whole cigarette when I do smoke.and because of the prices I started only smoking half then put it out then smoke the other half..Also when I don’t smoke I wanna eat …..I could eat the whole house when I don’t have cigarettes.Then that will be a problem my weight either way I lose ..So I did promise My husband I would try the patch and let him give me my cigarettes for the day so far it’s working out he gives me 8 cigarette for the whole day and at the end of the day I may still have 1 or 2 left..so my craving is going away …So try the patch or gum or ask your doctor which is best for you good luck …..

    Have you tried any of the assistance available? There is Nicorette, Wellbutrin, Zyban, and various other aids, as well as hypnosis. Another help is to try avoiding the times that cravings are the worst or change your habits to make it different. My worst time was always my morning cigarette, on my way to work, with my first cup of coffee, after I had the kids at daycare. It was just a habit to have that one special cigarette and savor it and the peace and relaxation/quiet time. I change my habit a little to help make it more bearable. Instead of coffee, I drank juice for a while. I know it sounds nuts, but just the little changes from your old triggers helps. Also, it sometimes helps to find something else to do with your hands or mouth to help overcome the hand mouth fixation from the smoking habit. Some people chew on straws. I ate sunflower seeds. It kept both my hands and my mouth busy. I know these little things sound stupid, but try them. They helped me and may help you too. Also, try to stay busy and keep your hands and mind busy doing other things besides fixating on wanting a cigarette.

    I would say stay focused and don’t go back that way. I know some people have different things that keep their minds off of the cigs. Like my mom tried the gum, the patch, and now she eats ice instead of smoking because she said ever since she stopped smoking she’s had craving for chopped ice. So just find something to take your mind off of it.

    I think your wife is stressed out right now and was not as addicted as you were. I will take the liberty to say, I am very proud of you for working so hard to quit, you will never regret it. You will continue to crave, taking your mind off of it is not enough. She is wrong

    don’t go back to it –
    it took me almost a year to where I wasn’t thinking about it all the time
    it will get easier with time – right now you just have to say to yourself I’m going to make it through the day – then wake up tomorrow and start over
    its a ***** – but its worth the effort -

    you didnt mention if you are on a stop-smoking program, like patches, gum, upping your serotonin level, consulting a doctor, or other forms of behavior modification therapy. it not, try them.
    you can also look up trigger coping responses on the internet.

    Ask her to help ‘distract’ you.
    At this point, the cravings are psychological. Therefore, if you could control your thoughts, it would completely solve the problem. Read one of Dr. Amen’s books if you want more info. It’s usually not that difficult.
    Good job quitting. Keep it up.

    if you chew gum, any kind, it helps with ciggerette cravings, but people in my family have quit 20 years ago and they say they still crave it sometimes
