Pregnancy, And The End Of Smoking?

I have just 10 weeks of pregnancy left, and have just now been able to stop smoking. Are there any benefits for my child to stop now? Or have I already screwed my baby up. I am not looking for rude comments, I know smoking is bad……BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY hard to quit this time. and my doctor told me that i just needed to do it in low quantities if I couldln’t quit, and that made it even harder to quit, but I have done it, and I just wanted some reassurance that quiting now is better than not at all!

Congratulations; I know it’s hard as hell.

There are ALWAYS benefits to quitting smoking and I congratulate you on actually doing it!
Keep it up….and remember that your baby will thank you!

I have no doubt that quitting smoking was hard, but most parents I know would die for their kids. Much less quit a habit for them that could ruin their lives with asthma. Way to go, mom!

Yes, there are still benefits. Especailly after your child is born. By not smoking, you will reduce the chances of your child having asthma, constant lung infections, colds, coughs, wheezing, and you will just have a healthier child all around. Plus you will be healthier and can possibly avoid the chances of having lung cancer and be around longer for your child. Plus do you know how embarassing it is for a child to go to school smelling like smoke? And do you know how much nicotine ages you? There are SO SO SO many benefits.

Congratulations on finally being able to quit. Even though it’s happened late in the pregnancy I would have to say it’s still a great thing ! That means you’re not continuing to do any kind of damage to yourself or the baby. You will only continue to reap the benefits even after the baby is born. You won’t have to worry about your clothes or your body smelling when you hold the baby, you won’t have to worry about leaving the room to smoke. You’ll free up cash to spend on the baby too .. outfits, toys, formula if not breast feeding, diapers. All those things are expensive regardless of your income level. Good luck to you and enjoy your baby !

totally quitting now is better and gives your lungs time to heal as well i know what you mean about smoking but i had other problems like with weed but i quit it but had to lower my amounts till i was done done it was really helping nausea so i dont judge you for that at all but i would quit maybe give your baby a few weeks to gain some more wait before the big arrival congrats and good luck your baby is fine

An addiction is hard to stop, but you really have to understand the damage you are doing to your child. My suggestion is to make a list of all the negative aspects of smoking when pregnant and what will be the devastating effects your child will have because of it. Be very specific and get good information. You should also make a list of the benefits if you do stop smoking. (Make the list larger by including benefits to you.) Cigarettes are expensive and you could save that money for diapers, clothes, formula- etc.
When you get the urge, review this list and think of your baby. You really are poisoning your child and your introducing them to a bad habit they will also have. You could absolutely stop this all you need is motivation!
Good luck with everything and God bless!

Quitting now is better then not at all. If not for your unborn child.. then for you and for your baby when He or She is born. Smoking around children is unhealthy and I’m not talking about just the possible lung cancer although that should be enough not to do it, but also the Ear infections that Babies are prone to.

  9. friedo82 Says:

I think the damage, if any, was probably already done. Im sure it helped tho that you quit now. If it was going to cause any damage it would have already. Congrats on quitting now though. What is more important now though in my opinion is not exposing your baby to second hand smoke after he/she is born. So consider yourself now smoke free even after your child is born. Make that promise to your child.

Congratulations on quitting! I know that is’s hard to do and you deserve credit for it. You are definitely going to benefit your baby! First of course, no second hand smoke when he/she is born! Second, setting a good role model for him/her not to smoke! Third, since smoking mainly affects birth weight, and babies gain the most wieght in the last trimester, I’d say you quit just in time. Give yourself a pat on the back for having the fortitude to stop smoking now. Don’t let yourself fall back into the habit of smoking, and enjoy being a mother.

  11. (R)Evolutionary is who i AM Says:

Smoking can cause your child to have a lower birth weight and really the first trimester is the most important for the baby. But it’s understandable that you found it hard to quit, lots of moms do. Quitting smoking at any time is an achievement so good for you and i’m sure your baby will be fine.
    Congrats and good luck!!!

Well, during the last two months of pregnancy is when the lungs mature. I think that yes, you have done a wonderful thing by quitting and yes, this is great for your baby! Congratulations on doing it. My hope for you now is that you will continue to be anti-smoking.

  13. Barbara Says:

Quitting at any time is better for your health and the health of your baby.

  14. poohb287 Says:

Be reassured – quitting now is better than not at all. NOt only for the baby, but for you as well. Plus…it will be much better for your baby when s/he is born (not having to inhale second hand smoke).

  15. thezooke Says:

Absolutely! Its always better to stop as soon as possible, and if that means a few weeks before delivery time, then so be it. Your baby will have the nicotine withdraws inside you and be able to handle it a lot easier then out of you.
Congrats! on the baby and your quitting smoking.

  16. glamorou Says:

Well congrats to you!!! The last couple of weeks for your pregnancy is when the baby really develops just like in the begining. I cant tell you wether or not your baby might have some deffects, but every single day of not having to take in the side effects of you smoking will help in increasingly numbers for the baby. Go luck. Plus if you were still smoking when I baby was born, smoking around the baby will increase its chances of getting sick all of the time.

  17. lilmommy Says:

Well.. im not sure if this is true BUT… I heard that if you began smoking in your first months of pregnancy … and you quit all of a sudden that it will stress your baby.?…. not sure about that!…
My friend was smoking all her pregnancy i told her its bad and she should quit etc etc… and she said that she cant now because it will stress her baby… because her baby is already addicted to it?…. hmm i dont know…
But yes either way your baby is already messed up by this…because the most extreme part in pregnancy is the first 2 trimesters… all there organs are growing…
My sister smoked all her pregnancy aswell and even right up until she was induced in the hospital… and her daughter is fine..
but i wouldnt say that just because shes fine now she wont have probs n the future because she probably will…
    Anyways good luck and congrats!…
P.s its always good to have quit either way because now you wont hurt your child once its born with the second hand smoke..
    so good job!

  18. Trinidy Says:

Any time you quit is better then not quiting at all. Plus think that you can be around your baby and not have it be inhaling second hand smoke. You have 2 and a half months left that your child will be getting pure oxygen. I am very proud of any one who quits no matter how far along they are. Hopefully it can stay that way after the baby is born.
