What Benefits Mentally Does Quitting Smoking Have?

I recently quit smoking about a month ago. I smoked about a pack a day for like 5 years. Dont get me wrong it was hard. As I think about it, the first week was the toughest but I pulled through it. I’ve noticed that i’m more aware, less anxious and can concentrate more on my work. I dont get upset or moody at my fiance anymore over silly things. I’ve noticed all of this as a result of quitting smoking. Is this just in my head or does nicotine have an affect on mental stuff when you quit.

    Yes and Yes.
When you smoke, nicotine causes your brain to release adrenaline. This is stopped when you quit, this mellows the body, for lack of a better description, maybe I will elaborate later as I need to go to bed.
Also, I am a firm believer in the idea of mental state having a large impact on the physical body. I have not been sick more than five days in the last five years. I equate this directly to my mindset.

Nicotine is a powerful stimulant. It might have been over stimulating you to the point that you got cranky. Congratulations on quitting, and don’t let your guard down, the urge sometimes creeps up in ifrst few years of quitting.
