What Happens After Stopping Prolonged Use Of A...

My grandad is in his seventies and took Phenazepam for at least 3 years at high daily doses (above 3 mg). His kidneys hardly work and he went cold turkey about 13 days ago. 7-8 days later he experienced confusion and psychosis for a couple of days. Now he is mentally clear and even walks properly, seems much more coordinated. What else can we expect might happen if he continues cold turkey?

he will just keep on improving, sounds like the drug and dependence has passed. But one should never go COLD TURKEY on these meds especially his age. I suggest you tell him how he was on them compared to now. He should try alternatives to these if he feels the need for assistance in why he had them in the first place.

i am on xanax and if I don’t have it I have continuous panic attacks until i get it . I have been hospitalized 4 this a few times. But w/o I feel like I cannot catch my breath and I cannot even relax enough to sit down. i don’t take them as much as presribed, but have them when needed. I truly believe just knowing i have them makes my mind so content, that i rarely need them. if ur grandad has been off that long, he should be fine. if you need to know more, just call any pharmacist.

seizures are one of then more risky problems
who let him go cold turkey
Going off a benzo cold turkey is extremely dangerous
the dose should be cut by about 15% every 2 weeks until they are completely weened off
    just asking for trouble
