What Is The Best Method To Stop Smoking? Any Advice?

I’ve been a chain smoker for 3-4 years. I need to stop and I’m only 22. My fiance is going to quit too, because we live in the same house and if 1 can’t smoke.. neither can the other.
Any advice, suggestions etc? Cold turkey or what? This saturday might be a good day to do it because I’ll be in a plane or airport for 8 hours.

You could try Chantix, a prescription drug from pfizer. The website is http://www.chantix.com. I am a pharmacist and so many of my customers have had great results with it. Much more success than with zyban or wellbutrin. I’d say that its worth trying out.

How about going to the doctor and having him look at your lungs..that usually scares some ppl. Or, cold turkey. good luck!

First off i have to say it has to be a two party effort when you quit, it has to be together.
Secondly my only advice I can give you is to do what yout hink would be your best chance at succeeding. I’m on my 4th day without a cig, =) I stopped cold turkey, I will tell you I went through a period of withdrawl and got the shakes, I was dizzy, and nauseated and everything.
I only smoked a half pack a day but i’d i’ve been smoking since I was 14 and ill be 20 in october.
Whatever method you choose I can tell you has to be for you, not your fiancee, not your mom or your friends or whatever, but for you, if you don’t want to quit you wont.
My other opinion is that is you’re gonna have enough nerve to quit just quit, you don’t need some gum that tastes like an ashtray to help you, or patches that pump liquid poison into your veins, they’re just as addicting as the cigs themselves, sometimes worse. So save yourself the extra money and go cold turkey, then you don’t have to worry about becoming a patch addict, which sadly I know someone who is addicted to those cig patches.
I would suggest taking up chewing gum, whenever you get a craving so bad for a smoke, chew a piece of gum. (not the niccorette stuff but like regular chewing gum like bubble yum or something)
And most importantly Good luck, =) I feel your pain on this but trust me, once your body starts to get used to it and you can breathe easier, its worth it!

There are many ways and different ones work for different people. Contact the local hospital for a referral to a smoking cessation counselor who will determine the best way for you. In the meantime it can’t hurt to try not to smoke or cut way back. I know it’s hard-I applaud your courage.

Quit cold turkey, but keep one cig for security. You’ll be proud of yourself after every day you still have that one cig left….

There’s a miracle drug that came out in a pill form the last year. Go to your doc, PA or NP and talk to them about it. It’s proven successful over most other methods. Good luck, too.
