Often when smokers are asked why they smoke, their answer would be to overcome stress. Let us say your precocious three-year-old infant wants a toy and is crying. How would you respond? Perhaps to appease the child, you hand him the plaything, leave him to cry, or give him a little medicine to collect him down. Likewise, your child is apprehensive about a coming game. To let him keep cool, you will counsel him or sedate him.
Gathering the stated instances, it is understood that the child is undergoing some pain or concern. Normally, a child’s bad temper may be controlled by giving him a piece of advice or assistance, thereby building his confidence. Anxiety pangs occur during the child’s development process. When we grow emotionally, physically, mentally, or spiritually, one undergoes anxiety. The growing aspect should be considered a normal and natural part of the process. We also experience varied emotions – sadness, pain, anxiety. But all these shall pass and we can overcome each of them. We must bear in mind that with growth goes our realization of joy and pleasure.
We can advise our child about this menace and its ill effects on him. You then consider, is it really wise to smoke in order to achieve comfort?
Smokers never run out of excuses as to why they persist in smoking. For example, they feel sad and gloomy or they experience job-related strain. One of the most common excuses of smokers is the feeling that they do not belong in a certain crowd during parties. That is surely a lame excuse just to smoke. So, they smoke if they are under stress and when they have fun. Odd, isn’t it?
Some women say they add extra pounds if they stop smoking. You think their continued smoking is justifiable?
It is a fact that smoking is dangerous to one’s health. Smokers know this. They are just used to making excuses. One of the causes for making false justifications is the nicotine obsession.
It is when you stop smoking when you come to realize it is harmful. It does not help you deal with tension at all, yet it is the reason of other deadly diseases. In your desire to stop smoking, there are instances when you are tempted to take a puff or two. Perhaps this happens in social gatherings or when you feel down and out. Before you get that stick – beware! You are just killing yourself gently and slowly. It never helps.
Each time you feel that itch or desire to smoke, take hold of yourself for a few seconds. Tell yourself that this just might be the biggest slip you are relatively about to make, if you give into that desire.
