Smoking and Hypnotherapy









Its no secret that quitting smoking and staying a non smoker is a hard task – Breaking the cycle of lighting up another cigarette is hard & takes a lot of determination

When you are addicted to smoking, you are addicted in two ways – Physically and Psychologically. The physiological addiction is when your body craves the nicotine. When you are craving the nicotine your body starts to experience withdrawal symptoms, sometimes this makes it feel like it’s an impossible task to become a non smoker. Hypnosis can help you with this in 2 main ways – Firstly it helps to tell your body not to crave a cigarette. This helps but sometimes you will still experience some cravings – The hypnosis also gives you relaxation techniques, to help with these cravings and the feelings it gives you!

Known as conditioned response this involves changing your daily routine. Whether it’s going outside for a cigarette during your break at work or your last cigarette at night before you can relax enough to sleep this cycle needs to be broken. Often smokers will find themselves lighting a cigarette out of habit more than because they need to smoke. This is the reason that many people using patches or gum fail as although these help with the physical craving they do not help you overcome your habit as this is often an unconscious decision.

Hypnotherapy as part of your giving up smoking plan helps you stay motivated – The hypnotherapy can help reinforce your motivation that gave you your reasons to give up at the start. Again relaxation techniques learnt as part of your hypnotherapy can also help with this.

You can of course approach a hypnotherapy clinic to help you but there are also many other resources available. For example there are many CD’s, or downloadable audio courses that you can buy that will teach you relaxation tips at home. You will also find there are downloads available that you can put onto your MP3 player, CD walkman or even your cellphone so that you can have the tips played to you wherever you are at your convenience.
Maybe you are slipping a bit and craving a cigarette. You will be able to put your headphones on and listen to some relaxing and motivating words – A great boost in your plan to be a non smoker!
