Taking Your First Step To Quit Smoking

Old habits die hard, especially if you have formed some sort of affinity with them. Someone who loves speed will always look for that rush, even though this means getting into danger. Just like smoking, you may want to kick the habit, but as much as you want to, you always resort to having a puff and another. How is this so?
Stubborn smokers find it hard to quit simply because they are not yet totally resolved with the idea of quitting; in that sometimes, the word “quit” reverts them to the habit more since they think of it too much. Before an “addict” gets released from this chain, there must first be an honest and true desire to finally force the habit out.
In deciding to quit, it helps if you will think about whom you are doing the quitting for. Dedicating the decision for the welfare of your family and for your own health will inch you towards the steps of quitting. You can draw up the merits and reward yourself later if you have done what you once thought impossible.
Come up with your own version of a “bucket list” to help you break free from smoking. Come up with something like, “it pays to be healthy for the sake of my family,” or “be a good partner and a good person”. The list can go on to encourage you and condition your mind. After all, it is all in the mind, right? The more you see this list, the more you will be driven to do the right thing.
Now that you have done your part as the key player in this decision, it is about time to consult your doctor about this. Have your body checked up so you can do your body the right thing as you progress on your quitting. Your doctor will give you good advice to keep you going through the withdrawal stages. Hear him talk about the bad effects of smoking, the good things yet to come after you have successfully stopped smoking, and so on.
While you are in the stage of quitting, it is better to think up of activities that can give the same “relaxing” effects smoking “supposedly” gave you before. This way, you yourself can also reinvent your own lifestyle. Pretty soon, you will no longer feel the itch to grab a stick, just so you can find yourself in that relaxing mood you so crave.
