Image via Wikipedia Current statistics show that an average of 1,000 Americans die daily due to smoking, and out of every six men, one dies because of it. Smoking is one of the chief causes of death, as it increases your chances of attracting diseases, such as lung cancer, coronary heart disease, and pancreatic cancer to name a few. And once these cases are severe, there are no longer treatments available to cure them.
Now, there is a call for urgency to give up smoking as soon as possible. It is not impossible for one to quit, as there have been a lot of cases already where chain smokers have successfully quit this habit. What is most essential though is that you make that conscious decision to stop and you stick to it. Upon achieving your goal, the sense of contentment and satisfaction is all worth the trouble.
Once you have that determination to eliminate this awful habit, the next thing for you to do is make up your mind on a date that you will no longer be picking up a cigarette and be firm with it. In the days leading up to that date, do activities that will minimize the availability of cigarettes, such as dumping them in a water-filled glass jar. Or if you feel the craving to put a stick in your mouth, you might want to reach out instead for a lollipop or nicotine gum.
During your spare time, focus on the advantages of getting rid of your smoking habit. Lessening the risk of getting cancer and heart disease, boosting your immune systems’ resistance to colds and flu, as well as increasing your energy level are just some of the health benefits of quitting. Aside from that, the money that you used to spend on your cigarettes can now be saved and you will be surprised at how much savings you have in a month.
For those who are beauty conscious, here is another reason to quit smoking. Since your oxygen intake is now increased leading to a clearer heart and lungs and there is minimization of carbon monoxide in the blood, you will notice that your skin will turn pinkish and will naturally glow.

Remember that these are positive signs and will eventually decrease in time. To minimize the discomfort, drink lots of water, avoid caffeinated drinks, and do exercises to minimize weight gain, such as walking. It is suggested that you also pair up with a friend who is trying to quit so you can act as each other’s support systems and progress. By doing various activities, your mind will be diverted so you will no longer be tempted.
Just always remember to have a positive outlook and have faith in yourself, and you will certainly be able to achieve your goal.
